The FCAC-KZN was formed in 2003 and its constitution was adopted in the same year. Despite facing persisted resource challenges, it has continued to remain active and has been successful in providing FCAC-KZN and other artist formations with a forum where among other things:
It has jointly lobby all structures of Government on behalf of the KZN arts and culture community for arts favourable policies, and resources and support;
Member organisationâs beneficiaries access skills and capacity building programmes offered by other individual member Community Arts Centers (CACs); and
It has established and sustained a close and working relationship with the KZN Department of Arts and Culture.
The Federation is now legally registered as a Non-Profit Company (NPC) (April 2018) and is led by a management committee which is democratically elected and comprises members from all the regional clusters

Secure adequate funding, to sustain the existing Centers for actively promotion and the expansion of the community arts sector so that more communities and localities may benefit
Champion the idea that access to cultural and creative expression is a basic human right
Lobby local, provincial and national government to put in place the arts policy and legal environment which enables and promotes the development of our creative arts industries
Facilitate capacity building of community arts Centers to enable them to operate effective
Actively promote and market community arts in KwaZulu Natal with particular emphasis on the social, economic, and creative benefits
Sustain and develop healthy working relationships with Government, Business, NGOs and international bodies for community arts
Network to share expertise and resources with each other and partners in relevant other sectors
Promote principles of good practice related to needs assessment, project planning and management, effective monitoring and evaluation, fundraising and financial management
Advocate for transparency and democratic practice in the wider arts and culture sphere
Map the size and scope of the sector in the Province and maintain an accurate database of artists and activitie
Represent the community arts sector on all relevant Provincial and national bodies and structures
Promote the âdiverse people uniteâ for a social cohesive society, social integration and inclusion in communities and society at large
Support the governmentâs initiatives to address the South Africa 's triple challenge of poverty, inequality, and unemployment' - as poverty, unemployment and growing inequality remain South Africaâs greatest challenges in undoing the legacy of Apartheid
